‘Flat’ isn’t in the Cumbrian vocabulary. So sure enough, Carlisle parkrun is an undulating three lap multi-terrain course around Morton Park, located a mile from the town centre. It starts with a short gravel stretch followed by three half tarmac, half grassy laps before a slight uphill finish. We got lucky with the fantastic weather but on a wet day, I can see the course being very much like cross-country. A familiar face in the North East running scene, James Buis, was first finisher on the day in 16:20, just two seconds shy of the course record.
