A 300 plus strong field gathered on the moor this morning as the sun came out just before 9am for a very warm and humid parkrun. Ian Hudspith of Morpeth Harriers, making a rare appearance, stormed in in first place with a time of 15:25, looking almost effortless. Further down the field, in the realm of us mere mortals, Matthew Kingston recorded a new personal best breaking 19 minutes for the first time. Steve Harknett, returning to toon after more than a year away in more tropical climes, must have felt at home in today’s conditions. Just one run away from that 50 t-shirt, don’t go back just yet Steve!

  1. I did the Princes parkrun in Liverpool in 20:20 which is 35 seconds slower than when I did it last year but faster than I have done Newcastle parkrun this year. It is a well organised and friendly parkrun but I much prefer the course in Newcastle – Princes Park is fairly small and there are 2 and a half laps so I think it must get boring for the regulars and demoralising for slower runners who get lapped.

  2. Well done Tom. I prefer single lap courses too but it would be quite something to see someone like Ian Hudspith go flying past you on a multi-lapper!
